You will need the following:

- X-box Memory key (can be third party like this one)

- USB cable

- Soldering iron and skills to use one

- Small Philips screwdriver

- Drill and drill bits

- Action Replay software

1. First, get your memory key

2. Flip it over and remove the screws holding the case together.

3. Open it up.

4. Here I have marked where you will solder the wires from the USB key to the memory card. The colours are fortunately standard!

5. Cut the end off your USB cable and strip the wires. You will want to twist the wire ends and then tin them before soldering

6. You will want to solder the cable in like this

7. It’s pretty much done now, but you’ll want to plug it in to test it before putting it back together.

8. Plug the USB cable into your PC and use the Action Replay drivers when Windows prompts you. If it doesn’t work, check your solder joints.

9. Next we need to make a hole in the plastic casing to allow the USB cable to come out the end opposite the X-Box plug. Use a drill at slow speed and the appropriate bit for the width of the cable you chose.

10. Put the board in the case and do up the screws. My case didn’t have anything holding the other end together, and the cable pushed it apart. So, I drilled two holes on either side of the cable, through the case, and used a zip-tie to hold the end opposite the screws together. It’s not elegant, but it doesn’t look “bad”.

11. Now plug it into your X-Box and make sure it works there also.

12. You can use Action Replay software to read/write to the card and add save games or Softmod exploits to mod your X-box!
